A one-day-old baby girl was stolen from Natore Modern Sadar Hospital this morning.
Police suspect the perpetrator to be a woman, dressed as a nurse, reports our Natore correspondent quoting Natore Superintendent of Police Md Saifur Rahman.
The child's father, Mahfuzur Rahman Palash of Khajura Mahishdanga village in Naldanga upazila, said his wife, Hasnahena, gave birth to a girl around 11:00am yesterday.
This morning, when the infant was with her grandmother, Khairun Nahar, the unidentified woman took the child from her on the pretext of taking her to a doctor. Later, when "the nurse" did not return, they started searching the hospital but found no trace of her, said the father.
SP Saifur said police have collected the hospital's CCTV footage and working to rescue the baby.
Dr Moshiur Rahman, civil surgeon of Natore, said, the hospital was empty during Friday prayers. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the woman ran away with the child. The CCTV footage has been given to the police.
