BCC polls: No outsider can stay in Barisal city after midnight

Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) asked the outsiders to leave the Barishal City Corporation area within midnight ahead of the city elections scheduled to be held on June 12.

BMP commissioner Md Saiful Islam told this at a press conference held at his office on Saturday.

He said they will conduct drives after midnight. Except any valid reasons like treatment, no outsiders will be allowed to stay in the city.

He, however, said they may overlook if any outsiders came to the city on official duty related to the election.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 in Barishal also held a press conference at its headquarters at Rupatoli in city on Saturday.

RAB-8 commander Md Mahmudul Hasan said the candidates could run their campaign activities till Saturday midnight. He also urged the outsiders to leave the city corporation area within the mentioned time.

Besides, out of 126 polling centres, 106 were identified as ‘very risky’ by the Election Commission (EC) said Monirul Islam, assistant returning officer of Barisal City Corporation election, on Saturday. He said total 20 polling centres are mentioned as regular.

According to the information given by the BMP, 22 to 24 law enforcers will deployed at ‘regular polling centres’ and 19-member police team with RAB, Border Guard Bangladesh, and Ansar men will be deployed at ‘very risky centres’
