Mentioning that Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is being sold at a higher price than the price fixed by the government, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said, "LPG is being sold at Tk 100-200 more than the fixed rate. Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is monitoring."

"Monitoring will be increased. If necessary, licenses of dealers will be revoked," the state minister said these at a seminar on LPG cylinders at EPB auditorium in the capital on Sunday.

BERC chairman Nurul Amin, Energy secretary Nurul Alam, Petrobangla chairman Zanendra Nath Sarker were present, among others.

Referring that in 2009, the demand for LP gas was 47,000 tons, now it is over 14 lakh tons, Nasrul Hamid said, "The demand has increased from 20 to 22 times. It will double in the future. Its contemporary policies are essential. There needs to be a guideline as to where the vehicles will be used. Our country is developing, now we need to look at these issues."

"The LPG can be used in multi-storied buildings. They can work over an area. A master plan is being prepared for where and how to supply gas in the future," he added.
