An application was submitted to the Home Ministry on September 4 last seeking permission to take BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced medical treatment.

The BNP Chaiperson‍‍`s younger brother Shamim Eskander submitted the application, said Khaleda Zia‍‍`s personal secretary Abdus Sattar.

Responding to Law Minister Anisul Huq‍‍`s remarks that application would have to submit to the Ministry of Home Affairs to take Khaleda Zia abroad, Abdus Sattar said there was no need to submit application anew.

"An application was submitted to the home ministry from the family on September 4 last seeking permission to take the madam abroad. The government could inform us instead of talking to media if it had a good intention of sending Khaleda Zia abroad, or the government could make a phone call to the family members. They have the mobile phone numbers of all of us. We have no objection to submit not only one but 100 prayers if the government accords us permission," he said.

He further said, "We saw in the past that the law minister made comment that there was no legal scope of sending Khaleda Zia abroad. The Law Minister made the same remark just 10 days ago. How we would believe his remarks now?

Talking to reporters at Akhaura upazila in Brahmanbaria on Saturday last, Law Minister Anisul Huq said an application must be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs to allow BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad for better treatment.

"The application must be submitted to the Home Ministry, which then can ask the law ministry for its opinion. A decision will be reached upon their formal submission," he said.
