Five-member committee formed to review ‍‍`Sharifa‍‍`s Tale‍‍`

The Education Ministry on Wednesday formed a a high-level five-member probe committee to review a story named ‘Sharifa‍‍`s Tale’, that has been included in the seventh grade history and social science textbook.

The committee will review the content deeply and will make recommendations to the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), said a press release sent by Mohammad Abul Khair, the information and public relations officer of the ministry, on Wednesday.

Prof Abdul Rashid, vice-chancellor of the Islamic Arabic University, has been made convener of the committee.

The other members of the committee are -- Mufti Maulana Kafil Uddin Sarker, governor of the Islamic Foundation; Prof Moshiuzzaman, member of the NCTB; Prof Abdul Halim, director of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) at Dhaka University; and Prof Mohammad Abdur Rashid, principal of Dhaka Alia Madrasa.

Meanwhile, the development comes after a teacher at a private university recently criticised the inclusion of third gender or ‍‍`Hijra‍‍` individual in a seventh-grade textbook, sparking protests for and against the stance.

Earlier, on Tuesday, regarding the controversy over the Sharifa‍‍`s Tale, the Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel said if any controversies or confusions is fouind in the presentation of the story,it will be amended.
