Severe traffic on Dhaka-Ctg highway following AL factional clash

Staff Reporter

Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway was halted for over three hours as two factions of Awami League took position in Cumilla's Chauddagram parts of the highway.

A clash broke out between the two groups--supporters are former Railway Minster Mujibul Haque and his rival Chauddagram's former mayor Mizanur Rahman-- around 9am that left at least 10 injured.

Later, they took position on the highway with sticks and lethal weapons. Following the sit-in, severe traffic congestion was created on both sides of the highway.

Both the feuding groups also chased each other and threw brickbats.

According to local Awami League leaders, Chauddagram's former mayor Mizanur Rahman is scheduled to join a rally. But the supporters of Mujibul Haque took position on the highway to bar the leaders and activist of the rival group to join the rally.

The traffic movement on the highway became normal from 12:30 pm after both the groups left the street.
