Elon Musk launches ‍‍`America Party‍‍` amid feud with Trump

International Desk

Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political entity—the America Party—marking a dramatic shift in his political stance following a public fallout with President Donald Trump.

The tech billionaire made the declaration on his platform X, positioning the party as a challenge to the entrenched two-party system in the United States2.

Musk’s move comes just days after Trump signed his controversial “Big Beautiful Bill” into law, a sweeping piece of legislation that includes massive spending and tax cuts, and is projected to add over $3 trillion to the national deficit.

Musk, who previously served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency under Trump, criticized the bill for lacking support for green initiatives and for what he called “waste and graft”3.

In his announcement, Musk cited a poll he conducted on X, where users voted 2-to-1 in favor of forming a new party. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he wrote4.

However, as of Saturday, there is no formal registration of the party with the Federal Election Commission.

Musk, ineligible to run for president due to his South African birth, has not named a leader for the party. He suggested the America Party could strategically target a handful of Senate and House races to influence legislation and disrupt the current political balance.

The announcement underscores Musk’s growing disillusionment with traditional politics and his willingness to leverage his influence and resources—he reportedly spent nearly $290 million backing Trump’s campaign—to reshape the political landscape.

Whether the America Party gains traction remains to be seen, but Musk’s entry into the political arena adds a volatile new dimension to the already polarized U.S. political climate.
