BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has applied for a travel pass from the Bangladesh government through the High Commission in London, party sources said on Thursday.
Tarique could not renew his passport after it expired during his 17-year-long exile in the UK. After the fall of the Awami League regime last year, he still did not apply for a renewal.
In this situation, he needs a one-time travel pass to get back into Bangladesh before the general elections are held on 12 February.
On Thursday, BNP Chairperson’s Personal Secretary Abdus Sattar told reporters that Tarique would return to Dhaka with his daughter Zaima Rahman after 11am on 25 December.
Before reaching Dhaka, Tarique would travel to Sylhet from London, Abdus Sattar said.
