BNP’s national council will be held within this year, the party’s secretary general and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
He made the remarks during an informal exchange with journalists at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday (March 18) night.
Speaking about the timing of the council, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “BNP’s council will be held within this year. We have not yet fixed the time. But I think the council will be held soon.”
BNP last held its national council in 2016.
Asked by journalists whether the party and the government had become one after the formation of the government and when the party’s activities would begin in full swing, the minister said the party’s activities were continuing.
He said it had taken one month to form the government.
The minister said most of the party’s people had gone into the government and it would take time to fill those positions.
The government will do its work and the party will do its work, he said, adding that there was nothing to view separately in that.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sat with journalists for this exchange for the first time after taking charge as Local Government and Rural Development Minister in the government formed under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on February 17.
During the exchange, he answered questions openly on the country’s current political situation, the national parliament, local government elections, the government’s one-month performance, the appointment of vice-chancellors and the economy.
