Dr Shafiqur Rahman, while extending Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the people, called for the swift implementation of the “July National Charter-2025” and warned that the public would not accept any delay in implementing it.

The remarks were made in a statement signed by Mujibul Alam, senior publicity assistant of the central publicity department of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on Wednesday (March 18).

In the statement, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said Eid-ul-Fitr had arrived with a message of joy after a month of fasting.

He said the country was celebrating Eid at a time when a new government had been formed following the national election and long-standing undemocratic rule had come to an end.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman said people expected that no one would behave in a fascist manner in the country anymore.

He also stressed the need to ensure that people could move freely and express their views without fear, and to build a society free from bribery, corruption, extortion and land grabbing.

Referring to the “July National Charter-2025”, he said political parties had agreed to the charter and nearly 70 percent of citizens had supported it in a referendum. But the government’s reluctance to implement it was worrying, he said, urging the government to take swift action.

Remembering those killed in the anti-fascist movement, Dr Shafiqur Rahman prayed for the salvation of their souls and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Highlighting the significance of Eid, he said the festival strengthens the bonds of fraternity, equality and love by setting aside differences between rich and poor.

He also called on people to stand beside the neglected and deprived in society.

At the end of the statement, Dr Shafiqur Rahman again extended Eid greetings to the people and wished them happiness, peace, prosperity and good health.
