The interim government will transfer its responsibilities to the new administration as soon as possible after the election, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said.
He made the remarks on Thursday (February 5) at a briefing for journalists at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Shafiqul Alam said the current interim government will have no role in the newly elected parliament. Once the elected members take their oath, the government will immediately hand over authority to their representatives.
He also said that the handover will be completed at the earliest possible time.
“If MPs take the oath within three days, the leader of the majority party will be called to take the oath as the new prime minister. This could happen on February 15 or 16, and it is unlikely to be delayed beyond February 17 or 18,” the press secretary added.
