7 die from measles and measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

A total of seven people died from measles and measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, according to a bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday (April 6).

The DGHS said five of the deaths were among suspected measles patients, while two were confirmed measles deaths.

The health bulletin said 1,282 suspected measles cases and 180 confirmed measles cases were recorded during the same 24-hour period.

According to the DGHS, the total number of suspected measles cases recorded between March 15 and April 6 rose to 8,534, while the number of confirmed cases reached 1,099 over the same period.

The bulletin said 5,940 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals since March 15, while 6,016 patients have recovered and been discharged during the same period.

In the latest 24-hour period, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of suspected measles deaths, with five. Dhaka district also accounted for the highest district-level death toll during the period, with five deaths.

The DGHS said the total number of confirmed measles deaths between March 15 and April 6 stood at 20, while the total number of deaths among suspected measles patients rose to 118 over the same period.
