Iran rejected President Donald Trump’s demand that it reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday, warning of further retaliation as the conflict widened across the region.
Iranian officials described the ultimatum as unacceptable, while Trump said Tehran would face attacks on its infrastructure if it failed to comply.
Meanwhile, an Iranian missile struck a residential building in Haifa, killing at least two people. Israeli rescue authorities said several others were wounded and that some people were initially reported missing under the rubble.
Iran said US-Israeli attacks had killed at least 34 people across the country, including children, while additional strikes were reported in and around several cities.
Those casualty figures were reported from the Iranian side and could not be independently verified.
The conflict also spread across the Gulf, with Iranian drone attacks causing damage to power and water desalination facilities in Kuwait and sparking fires at oil-sector sites.
Bahraini authorities also reported a fire at a petrochemical facility, though no injuries were reported in either country.
The latest escalation came as ceasefire efforts continued through regional mediators, but there was no immediate indication of a breakthrough.
