Chief Adviser`s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Thursday that eight unidentified martyrs of last year`s July-August mass uprising, previously buried as unclaimed individuals at the Rayerbazar Graveyard, have been officially identified.
During a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Shafiqul stated that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs would soon provide the media with detailed information regarding these cases.
The identification process was successfully completed using DNA sample analysis and the families of the deceased have already been informed.
To build long-term local capacity, Alam noted that several Bangladeshi personnel have undergone specialized training to ensure that future identification efforts can be handled efficiently and accurately.
The Press Secretary highlighted that this initiative was supported by international expertise. He drew a parallel to the painstaking efforts used to identify 10,000 victims of the Srebrenica massacre during the Bosnian War, noting that the same experts who managed those complex operations provided the training for the Bangladeshi team.
Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad were also in attendance at the briefing.
