Rizvi demands removal of ‘Awami cadres’ from administration for fair election

News Desk

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called for the removal of what he termed “Awami cadres” from the administration, arguing that their presence would make a free and fair election impossible. He urged the Election Commission to appoint neutral officials at the field level to create conditions for a credible vote, scheduled for February.

Speaking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Monday, Rizvi accused the ruling Awami League of using the state machinery to manipulate elections. “A fair election will not be possible with an Awami League-controlled administration. Awami cadres must be removed,” he said.

Turning to electoral reforms, Rizvi dismissed the proportional representation (PR) system as unsuitable for Bangladesh, claiming that the people are not prepared for such a system. He also questioned the motives of those advocating PR, suggesting their intentions were questionable.

Rizvi also expressed hope that the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election would ensure participation and representation of all views.
