News Desk

Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has instructed that all preparations for the national election be finalized by December.

This directive was announced by Chief Adviser‍‍`s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Wednesday (July 9) at 8 PM, during a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka to update on the progress of the 13th national parliamentary election.

The Press Secretary also stated that the Chief Adviser has called for law enforcement agencies to be more stringent in the coming months. He mentioned that approximately 800,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed for the election, and all members must complete their training by December to ensure a fair election.

Discussions also covered the possibility of setting up separate polling booths for voters aged 18-32.

Shafiqul Alam noted that out of an estimated 47,000 polling centers, about 16,000 might be vulnerable. He shared that instructions have been given on how to ensure peaceful voting in these high-risk centers. Directives include equipping police with body cameras and ensuring every center is under CCTV surveillance. He emphasized the need for proper monitoring of these CCTV feeds, calling for training and focused efforts in that area.

He also addressed the occasional lack of training among judicial magistrates regarding election procedures. Today‍‍`s directive includes guidance on how to better train them for election preparedness.

Furthermore, he mentioned discussions about extending the deployment of police and security forces from the previous four days to seven days during the election period. This aims to prevent any violence before the vote and maintain law and order even after the election.

Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Faiz Ahmed were also present at the press conference.
