Dr. Ziauddin Hyder, advisor to BNP Chairperson, said that it is possible to bring Bangladesh’s economy to a trillion dollars by 2034. He emphasized that everyone should work toward this goal and noted that BNP’s research cell has already started working on this issue.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Barisal Reporters Unity on Saturday (September 20), Dr. Hyder said he is a human development specialist and wants to work as a development worker rather than engaging in traditional politics. He vowed to take a strong stance against corruption and stated it will not be tolerated under any circumstances. According to him, true democracy means the election of representatives through the people’s vote, and those who talk about proportional representation (PR) systems actually want to obstruct the election process.
He further stated that Professor Yunus’ government is for all of us, and they want knowledge-based politics. BNP leader Tarique Rahman focuses on health, environment, and climate issues. They want to move the country forward through development-centered work.
Regarding the events of August 5, Dr. Hyder said that not only Sheikh Hasina but all corrupt mafias fled that day. The youth have made it clear they do not want to return to old-fashioned politics. Change has come and will continue through the youth.
On Barisal’s development plan, he said they have a dream to transform Barisal into a city like Venice, utilizing its rivers, canals, and natural resources properly to turn it into a modern city.
He added that they will take tough revenge on the disappearances, killings, and genocide during the Awami League’s rule by achieving development. The country’s change will come through development-oriented politics led by the youth.
Answering a question about the student wing’s failure in university elections, Dr. Hyder said the party has admitted that their long absence from politics caused the situation. However, they will learn from this failure and move forward.
On local heritage, he expressed a desire to sustainably revive handicrafts and re-establish them in national and international markets.
The meeting was attended by Mir Ahsan Uddin Parvez, General Secretary of Barisal Divisional Petrol Pump and Tank Owners Association; Senior Vice President Mir Ziauddin Mizan; Aminul Islam Khasru, President of Barisal Press Club; Md. Akkas Sikdar, General Secretary of Jhalokathi Press Club and Additional Public Prosecutor of District Judge Court; Anisur Rahman Swapan, President of Barisal Reporters Unity; Khalid Saifullah, General Secretary; among others.
