Khaleda Zia to fly abroad once doctors approve: Dr Zahid

BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said on Saturday (December 6) that preparations are in place to take party chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced treatment, and the transfer will proceed once her medical board authorises it.

Speaking to reporters outside Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara, he said the journey to London would require 17–18 hours and depends on whether Khaleda Zia’s condition meets the clinical thresholds set by her doctors.

“If that condition is met, she will be taken abroad,” he said.

Dr Zahid added that a Qatar-sent air ambulance failed to reach Dhaka on Friday due to a technical fault, while the medical board also assessed that Khaleda Zia was not fit to travel at that time.

“That is why the departure has been delayed,” he said, adding that any new timetable will hinge on her health status.

He said the board’s judgment remains paramount and that specialists at home and overseas are focusing on her condition.

He added that Tarique Rahman, the BNP’s acting chairman, is monitoring the situation closely and giving priority to doctors’ advice.
