Jatiya Party MP Kazi Firoz said, for most people, politics, which used to be a passion, has become a profession nowadays.
"Doing politics was passion in the past, but it has become a profession at present," he told the parliament while participating in the discussion on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's proposal raised under Rule 147 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Jatiya Sangsad.
He said now if any guardian hears that the groom is involved with government party politics, then that person thanks god and says, "There is no better groom than this."
Firoz Rashid said that politics has become the only way to change fortunes overnight. "Now it has become a profession. Earlier, politics was a passion for which people risked life," he added.
During the Pakistan era, he recalled, it was seen that if a man was involved in politics, he couldn't marry. The perception was that he would not get any job.
He claimed that parliament has many achievements along with weaknesses.
"Till date, it was not able to form a commission (on Bangabandhu's murder). If this nation cannot know who was involved, there is no point in keeping a fragmented history. Bangabandhu was killed by a huge conspiracy. It was not just like that Dalim, Farooq, Rashid went and did
it. There was a conspiracy behind it, you didn't figure it out."Firoz Rashid said that the nation is now divided into two parts.
"There is no neutral person. Teachers, doctors, intellectuals, journalists are all divided. The entire country is now divided into two parts."
