Cambridge and Oxford Universities Drop Out of Top Three

News Desk

For the first time, the world-renowned Oxford and Cambridge universities have dropped out of the top three rankings. In the UK’s Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, both universities are jointly placed fourth. This is the first time in the 32-year history of the guide that this has happened.

According to the ranking, for the second consecutive year, the London School of Economics (LSE) has claimed the first position. The University of St Andrews is second, while Durham University has risen to third place.

Last year, Oxford was third and Cambridge fourth. That year, LSE jumped directly to first place, with St Andrews in second.

Durham University has been named University of the Year 2026 and has moved up from fifth place last year to third this year.

The Times and Sunday Times have been publishing this analytical guide since 1993 and 1998, respectively. However, in the Guardian University Guide 2026 released last week, Oxford remains first, and Cambridge is third.
