Gunfire Between Indian and Pakistani Soldiers at the Border

Last Saturday, an exchange of gunfire took place between Indian and Pakistani soldiers in the Naogam sector of Kupwara. The intermittent firing lasted for nearly an hour. However, no casualties have been reported from the incident. Neither side has issued an official statement yet. The situation is currently reported to be under control.

According to Indian media outlet India Today, the firing began around 6:15 PM local time on Saturday. The gunfire continued on and off for a while before stopping completely. However, India does not consider this incident as a violation of the ceasefire. A source told India Today, “There was a minor exchange of fire from both sides along the Line of Control, but it is not being treated as a ceasefire violation.”

No major damage or loss of life has been reported. The area remains under military surveillance. Earlier in May, India conducted “Operation Sindoor,” which led to increased tensions between the two countries. The four-day conflict eventually de-escalated into a ceasefire.

Shahbaz Sharif: India Must Decide — Hostility or Good Relations
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated that India and Pakistan are neighboring countries and must coexist. He urged India to decide whether to maintain hostility or build good relations. He also emphasized that the Kashmir issue must be resolved for the bilateral relationship to move forward. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering of expatriate Pakistanis in London. The News International reported this on Sunday.

Shahbaz said any talks with India must be based on fairness. Pakistan and India have fought four wars, costing billions of dollars. This money should have been spent on building schools, hospitals, roads, and improving the lives of ordinary people. Without resolving the Kashmir issue, relations with India cannot progress.
