Interim Government’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to Attend 80th UN General Assembly in New York
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, is set to travel to the United States to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He will depart Dhaka for New York late tonight (Sunday, September 21).
According to the schedule, the Chief Adviser will arrive in New York on September 22 and is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 26. He is expected to return to Bangladesh on October 2.
The Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Fayez Ahmed has confirmed the details of the visit. Accompanying him on this trip are four political leaders:
- Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the BNP
- Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami
- Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP)
- Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Adviser to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain told reporters that the Chief Adviser will highlight the reforms implemented over the past year and the government’s commitment to establishing a truly democratic system through the upcoming national election.
Additionally, on September 30, the Chief Adviser will take part in a High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar, chaired by the President of the UN General Assembly.
