Fire at multi-storeyed building in Mumbai kills 7

A fire broke out in a 20-storeyed residential building in Mumbai, India. At least seven deaths have been reported so far. At least 15 others were injured. The fire ignited on the 18th floor of Kamala Bhaban in the Tardeo area of ​​the city around 7 am local time on Saturday (January 22).

All the injured have been admitted to the nearby Bhatia Hospital. Three of them are being treated in ICU in critical condition. A doctor at Bhatia Hospital said the two were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar told news agency ANI that six elderly people had fallen ill due to smoke and had been sent to hospital with oxygen support. The fire was brought under control but a lot of smoke remained. Everyone has been rescued.

A city authority official said it had been identified as a Level-3 fire. Thirteen fire engines and seven water jetties have been used to control the fire.
